Welcome to Gal Oya Lodge

Gal Oya Lodge is a stunning, quasi-African-style safari lodge set in Sri Lanka’s beautifully untouched Gal Oya National Park, towards the east of the island.

Away from the more trodden routes, the park is a hot-bed of the country’s eclectic wildlife and at certain times of year there can be herds of up to 40 elephant. Its bird-life is the envy of any other park on the island and leopard, though perhaps more easily spotted in the crowded parks, are sometimes seen.

Gal Oya Lodge really champions a responsible, more discreet kind of wildlife tourism – one you’ll enjoy in quiet and beautiful isolation.

Private lodge luxury

Gal Oya offers a collection of nine beautifully designed bungalows, each set some distance from one another. All have thatched roofs, polished cement floors, and large four-poster beds.

Each bungalow echoes the African style of the main lodge and boasts its own unique view from a private verandah.

In addition to the bungalows, Gal Oya offers a villa joining two large bedrooms via a spacious living room.

Away from their guiding duties, the team is working closely with the Park on a range of ecological research and conservation projects.

Here’s what our guests say

“Best Place We Stayed in Sri Lanka - Fabulous eco resort tucked away in the hills. Gorgeous pool, rooms, food & surroundings. Highlights were the walks in the fields & hills around the lodge and news that they are getting mountain bikes makes we want to go straight back.

“Isolated splendour. Peace Quiet. Stunning architecture. An intimate experience in the company of dedicated guides. A chance view wildlife without the hordes you get elsewhere. The cabanas are stunning in their design and this continues into the roofed hotel and infinity pool under Monkey mountain.”

“This is a superb lodge set in stunning surroundings of jungle, lakes and mountains. Staying in this remote area far from other tourists is a magical experience. The lodge and bungalows have been beautifully designed in keeping with the natural surroundings.”

The Lodge sits on the boundary of the Gal Oya National Park, on the east side of the island in the Amapara District. You’re not much above sea level so temperatures will be nicely into the high 20s and early 30s through much of the year.
