Welcome to Maya Villa

Maya is about as cool as it gets in Sri Lanka – and there’s plenty of cool stuff about.

A beautifully restored and extended old manor house, the property sits in two acres of lush gardens that adjoin paddy fields and the peacocks that strut in them. In that space, co-owner Niki has created a real haven of style and subtle colour.

Old world & new style

Split between the old house and a new wing that runs the length of the pool, Maya’s bedrooms are chic and spacious. All flaunt a great fusion of old and new styling; antique fans perched above modern polished floors.

A unique blend of East and West

This stretch of coast doesn’t overflow with options for great eating but there’s little need to venture out. Maya’s head chef, Darshana, delivers exceptional fare; the menu changing regularly throughout the seasons. Bread-fruit curries mix it with indulgent seafood platters.

Here’s what our guests say

Slice of Heaven - We had an absolutely incredible stay at Maya. It is absolutely beautiful, with incredible service and delicious food. The perfect place to relax, swim, yoga, read, beach, tan, eat and drink. Difficult to find such attention to detail anywhere else. We will definitely be back soon!

“Absolutely paradise! - I just finished a week of pure bliss at Maya on a yoga retreat and it was perfection! The location is stunning, the food and service were outstanding and the rooms and outdoor areas are beautiful. Such a special place!

“Peaceful and Charming - I wish I had longer than just one night in Maya Villa. There was a sudden rush of peace that washed over me as soon as i stepped foot on the grounds.
The scenery is beautiful, and the space itself is immaculately maintained. I loved how there were mangos dropping from the trees all around, and gorgeous crotched hammocks strung up between them...."

You’re in the heart of rural Sri Lanka at Maya – not another ‘boutique’ hotel in sight! You head a little inland, some 8 km, from the fishing town of Tangalle to the village of Aranwella. The highway from Colombo can get you from the international airport to Maya in around 3 and a half hours. Cinnamon Air flies regularly to Dickwella – a 35 minute flight from Colombo and then a 20 minute drive.
