Amongst stiff competition, Samudra has to be one of, if not the loveliest beach villa on this southern stretch past Galle.

Two large main bedrooms sit side-by-side in front of a decadent pool that runs to to well-kept lawns and the beautifully quiet beach of Habaraduwa a few yards beyond.

This place really does nail it on style and attention to detail; the architecture the work of Jayatilla Sumangala; the envy-inducing interiors the handiwork of owners Pip and Christian.

There’s nothing not to love about Samudra.

Samudra’s a recent creation but the rooms mix an old antique charm with a light contemporary feel. Seriously high ceilings and clever design give already large rooms that extra space.

Not many private villas impress on the food front to the extent that Samudra does. Ruwan, the house chef, is universally praised by guests – many of whom end up foregoing other spots to eat-in most nights.

Ruwan’s dishes alongside the drinks rustled up by houseman Sanjeeva mean you’ll be expertly catered for.

“Already planning our return” - We stayed at Samudra as a family of four, on our annual holiday together, and had a wonderful time. The location is perfect, right on beautiful Habraduwa beach, with a turtle hatchery just a few minutes' walk away along the sand. Galle Fort is 15 minutes away by car and definitely worth a visit when you can tear yourself away from Samudra's poolside.....(click link below for more full review)

Everything about Samudra Villa makes you want to return. The first view of the house and view from the house catch you by surprise..the architectural splendour of the house, the elegant furnishings, the stunning beauty of the location, all weave a spell on you ... And then there's Ruwan and Sanjeeva; the courteous, unobtrusive, extremely accommodating, and good natured staff.....(click link below for more full review)

“Incredible location & house” - The location is simply incredible - right on the beach although there is also a pool overlooking the ocean. It is without a doubt the most magical place I have ever stayed at. Cannot recommend it enough...(click link below for more full review)

Samudra’s around 10km east past Galle. Shooting down the highway – with a brief juncture to nip across Colombo – you can be there from the airport in a couple of hours. Those coming from inland may fancy the seaplane, landing on Kogalla lake, barely a mile from the villa.
