Amongst stiff competition, Samudra has to be one of, if not the loveliest beach villa on this southern stretch past Galle.
Two large main bedrooms sit side-by-side in front of a decadent pool that runs to to well-kept lawns and the beautifully quiet beach of Habaraduwa a few yards beyond.
This place really does nail it on style and attention to detail; the architecture the work of Jayatilla Sumangala; the envy-inducing interiors the handiwork of owners Pip and Christian.
There’s nothing not to love about Samudra.
Samudra’s a recent creation but the rooms mix an old antique charm with a light contemporary feel. Seriously high ceilings and clever design give already large rooms that extra space.
Not many private villas impress on the food front to the extent that Samudra does. Ruwan, the house chef, is universally praised by guests – many of whom end up foregoing other spots to eat-in most nights.
Ruwan’s dishes alongside the drinks rustled up by houseman Sanjeeva mean you’ll be expertly catered for.
