Welcome to Thalassa
Located equidistant of Dickwella and Tangalle and about an hour and half down the coast from Galle, Thalassa is a stunning 6 bedroom house located on one of the best beaches in Sri Lanka.
The further you get from Galle the quieter and calmer the beaches get. Mawella’s a classic example – largely empty, save for locals, fishing boats and a lucky few visitors. It's a real hidden treat and The Times of London (2012) printed an article including Thalassa as among the 25 best family villas on the Indian Ocean. We agree!
Thalassa feels serendipitous, rustic and lived-in – and the more charming for it – with a large private garden leading on to one of the safest, and loveliest, beaches on the island.
It is set on two levels with four bedrooms up and two down. There is plenty of ‘quiet-time’ space with a large sitting room, upstairs reading room and a private study. In the courtyard is a smallish but well-placed pool between dining room/kitchen and living space.
Abundantly and lovingly staffed
The house boasts a loyal team that’s kept it in order for several years. Nandi is head housekeeper and oversees the kitchen. She’s lovely. Staff, of course, are readily on hand but this isn’t butler-service. During the day the kitchen (and drinks cabinet) is more to be used than ordered from.
Nandi and team can prepare fantastic Sri Lankan dishes as well as salads and other such light lunches. Fresh fish and seafood of course are staple. Typically, you’ll discuss with her your plans and she will visit the market to buy what’s necessary. The cost for meals is simply the cost of those ingredients bought. You’re very welcome to join those market expeditions.
