The Sun House

Welcome to The Sun House

The Sun House exudes a tropical, colonial glamour like no other place on the island. White-floored throughout, with just five bedrooms and two suites it is impeccably-styled; the dining and sitting rooms alone boast antiques, books and furniture the envy of much larger establishments.

Tropical gardens leading to a small private pool offer an ideal afternoon retreat, while Dick’s Bar, a social-hub for the Galle crowd, justifies its nomination as one of the finest cocktail bars in the world.

The Sun House has been lauded and applauded in all the right places. Justifiably so.

Country-house style

The seven bedrooms are all uniquely laid out but it’s really the living areas, the book- and antique-filled sitting room and stunning dining room that are the heart of the house. Each suggest a slower style of living now passed but happily recalled. Dick’s Bar, polo-picture clad and serving signature “Sun House Sours” offers the occassional noisier evening.

Fine cuisine

The hotel is known to offer some of the best food in Sri Lanka. Guests can choose from a Sri Lankan or English breakfast and light lunches are served as, where, and when required. The dinner menu is set, with three courses that change daily. Using the freshest local supply, fish and seafood of course feature most often.

Here’s what the guests say

“We stayed here in August 2014 and were not disappointed.
We checked in early (1000) at no extra cost. Our room was beautifully decorated and the glass-ceilinged bathroom made for a wonderful shower experience. The four-poster bed was very comfortable; we were woken only by monkeys running across the tiled roof in the morning.”

“I love the Sun House. It has lashings of romantic, old world charm, delicious food, perfect margeritas and smiley staff. There is stepped garden at the back with trees that are lit up at twilight, leading down to a beautiful stone swimming pool. What more could one want?”

Sophiaswire, Los Angeles, May 2016

“Our family loved our two day stay at The Sun House. The house is a beautiful example of colonial architecture with gorgeous antique furnishings throughout. The food was wonderful, the rooms are gorgeous with wonderful attention to detail. The staff was attentive, friendly and very helpful. Staying at the Sun House was a perfect way to begin our Sri Lankan vacation.”
